safe from car accidents?

I often see people (in Pakistan) tying black cloth near the wheels of their car or hanging religious prayers inside the car, all meant to avoid any potential accident. Just tying the black cloth or hanging the 'prayer' gives them the comforting belief that they are now safe from any road accident.

Now imagine if every single person believed in the 'prayer' and every single person hung it inside his/her car; so if the 'prayer' actually works, there should be no single road accident in the world and that would be the best car safety precaution anyone could ever have! But clearly, this scenario seems to defy reason because we know that given the number of cars, it is almost statistically impossible not to have any road accidents at all - thus reducing the utility of the 'prayer'.

well the thing that most ppl forget is, it s not that plastic or the paper that protects. if a prayer protects, then only if it comes from the heart and not forgotten on a piece of plastic.

I think that the "Prayers" hung inside cars are not meant only for protection from road accidents, they usually carry "Dua-e-Safr".
It might be hung just to remind one to say the prayer, don't you think!

@kunwal: actually I did mean the prayer rather than the paper or plastic. To make a better example, imagine everyone silently reading, from their hearts, the prayer every time they sat in their car. Would that case be any different from what I wrote in the post?

@saher: if I am not wrong the purpose of "Dua-e-Safr" is to pray to God for a safe journey. And in modern terms, the safe journey would naturally imply a journey that is safe from road accidents as well as other things.

Sorry about the comment moderation. I got some unpleasant posts by anonymous people, so in order to put a stop to that I had to enable the comment moderation.
